To begin this project I wedged a piece of clay until all the air bubbles were gone. I then rolled out my piece using the slab roller and used a rolling pen to get it to the correct thickness. I then placed the Clay onto the plate outline and pressed it into the mold to get a firm, molded shape. Once completing the step, I cut off excess Clay at the edges. Using a sponge I smoothed out any rough edges to create a more clean, refined look. In addition I painted on three layers of red underglaze and let it dry until it was leather hard. I started my second color painting on three layers of chocolate brown underglaze, let it dry, and took a tool with a sharp point to scrafitto my piece. I took the tool and lightly scratched the surface to reveal the red underneath. I then traced into the piece to make a flower design. The principle of emphasis is shown throughout this piece with the unique feature of the flower having a depth of two different colors, which makes the piece stand out. This shows a different perspective to view upon, showing death beyond the usual basic surface of one color. These different colors also represent that principle of variety. I used Pinterest and other online resources for my inspiration. If I would have to redo it, I would've put a thicker or extra layer of red to comply with the brown better, without the brown over powering it.
