Geometric Portrait
The objective for this project was to create a geometric portrait from a photo of our choice. We were to consider lights and darks, composition, space, and so on. The process was to trace the image by blocking in or creating shapes around highlights, shadows, and overall color change.
I traced my image using Adobe Illustrator. After creating the triangles over my picture, I began going back and forth between the direct selection tool and the eydropper to fill the triangles with color. Once completed I created a radial gradient of black and white and placed it behind me. I then created more triangles and filled them with various colors to not only create a unique effect, but to also camouflage my shoulders and arms being cut off.
I enjoyed this project tremendously. The process was simple. I was allowed to focus primarily on filling the triangles and later the composition. It was repetitive with clear requirements. I’ look forward to applying this method to future works. It adds versatility and style to something so mundane.
