A personal design challenge where I redesigned pinterest to be more sleek and clean, with an emphasis on the visual display of user content.
Pinterest is known for their iconic masonry grid, which I decided to be the main focus. I decided to get rid of text all together (titles, descriptions, features) and made the virtual bulletin board into a seamless screen of photos and user content.
A feature I thought was missing from the current version is the ability to only search through the boards you follow. With the new search bar, the user has the ability to toggle between searching all pins and only those within your dashboard.
The original design made it extremely difficult to hide any unwanted pins.
With this redesign, pressing and holding toggles the option to swipe up or down. A quick swipe up would hide the pin (with the option to undo the action) so your dashboard is only what you want to see.
Similarly, a swipe down is a quick way to pin.
Pinning is streamlined into a two-step process. The current version is not as mobile friendly, with a small window that the user must click into boxes in order to activate.
Finally, the pin view is taken up entirely by the photo. Being an app for the quick browsing of images and ideas, I figured that the content should be first and foremost, with extra information and details as secondary. As you scroll, more information slides up, but never completely covering the image.
