Sicilian Summer

This ground floor  apartment was a project that I worked on during my internship in Sicily.  It  was a completely open space and the client intended to use it just for a few months during the Summer. The main challenge of the space was that the bottom of the staircase for the upper floors, was entering in the space. To solve this problem, we enclosed the staircase and created a cocoon for the bed to be placed under. The client also wanted an industrial look whilst still remaining light and airy. Therefore, floor to ceiling doors were utilised to join the interior and exterior, whilst also allowing ample natural light into the living area. The outside patio is designed  so one could enjoy the sun and entertain. The only two enclosures within the space are the bedroom and bathroom, both of which require privacy.
The structural columns are used as a feature, and to enclose furnishings
