Guide to Realisms exhibition

Exhibition Realisms, that took place in The State Hermitage Museum in 2016 featured three contemporary artists: Mitch Griffiths, Tony Matelli, and Jim Shaw.
Although exhibition is dedicated to contemporary understanding of the realism concept in art, the main idea of public education programm is to show evolving of the concept through the art history from 18th to 21th century. For this purpose Contemporary art department in collaboration with Youth Education Centre of The State Hermitage Museum create a guide tour to the halls of The General Staff building. This project is based on a multifaceted conversation about matters of form and ideology in realism involving the permanent collection in the General Staff Building, which houses the museum’s collection of 19th to 21st century art. World art history can be writ- ten through a prism of realistic method. This guided tour is an attempt to chronicle di erent “realisms” – various approaches to ideologically consistent presentations of typical situations.
The main challenge for the designers of the printed guide was to create clear structure of the brochure and develop both russian and english edition, maintaining the same style and navigation elements.

The Realisms guide is divided into 4 parts, each dedicated to defined period in art history.
For convenient navigation brochure is accompanied with 4 maps with
the routes and supplement instructions.
Special types of layout design were created for every type of content.
The only font family used in the project is Graphik.
