''The fascination of boundaries lies in their ambivalent role or dividing and connecting at the same time. They mark the transition between different modes of existence. They transmit and control exchange between territories. They are the playground for discovery and conquest.''
- Richter and Peitgen, 1985

A Foreigner in his Own Country
Kuala Lumpur city centre is flocked with thousands of Malaysians from other rural, underdeveloped states - all in search of lucrative job prospects. Instead, many are out-competed by foreign workers and are turned jobless, financially ruined and jobless. These 'Malaysian Foreigners' loiter KL, failing to find their place within the social layers of the city. With architecture, we hope to aid these 'Malaysian Foreigners' to cross this boundary by learning the necessary skills and attitude to integrate well into the urban fabric of KL.

Situated on Klang River, the transit home design strategizes to integrate itself into the economic and urban transformation of the river. Hand-in-hand with the River of Life (ROL) Public Outreach Programme. Our proposal creates a transit centre of these 'Malaysian Foreigners'.

Leveraging existing NGO and community service initiatives, the design scheme provides adequate training for the homeless - allowing them to cross existing socio-economic boundaries to become successful and contributing citizens of Kuala Lumpur.
