I read Bird Box by Josh Malerman recently and got quite swept up in its psychological-style horror and suspense. I thought it was quite cleverly done and, for me, the cover design on the edition that I had wasn't quite living up to the words inside, so I thought I would take up the challenge. My final design, featuring a very close detailed image of an eye relates quite literally to an integral part of the story. However, the beautiful detail of texture captured in the image evokes impressions of other biological elements such as blood and neurons, relating to the psychological nature of the horror in this book. The soft, undulating shapes floating in the darkness are quite mysterious, which I felt suited this piece well.
