I enjoyed this project from start to finish and could not have asked for a more awesome client. My job was to create a VHS cover for volume 3 of a periodic video zine put out by Hyperreal Film Club. The video zine is a curated collection of video submissions centered around a theme. Volume 3 is called "Dream Dates," which was my only briefing for this project.

I decided without hesitation to draw inspiration from one of my long-time interests: Japanese dating sim games. The cover needed to be simple, fun, memorable, and enticing enough for people to spend $5 to purchase the tape in person on premiere day. Plus, since the zine was centered around love and premiering on Valentine's Day, it had to feel romantic. Knowing this, I went for cute girls in playful poses, rendered simply but with a subtle pink neon light to add that touch of romance. The simplicity of the character renders paired well with the clean type and graphics, and a subtle background pattern making it even more reminiscent of a dating sim game. The VHS product renders were done with the C4D physical renderer to give it more of a nostalgic feeling that matched the classic VHS tape.
