Situated in the western border of the Joshua Tree National Park, Jumbo Rocks Campground is a few hikes away from the some of the park’s most attractive rock formations. Camping is at first-come, first-served basis, so you’ll have to arrive early if you want to secure a spot.
Tuweep, North Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is far more remote than the South Rim. So if you’re looking to escape the crowds for a while, then Tuweep campsite is the perfect place for you. The nine-site camping ground requires drivers to pass through a 91-mile trail down dirt road caked in mud and grime. Plus, the park advises visitors that the campground has no water, gas, food, lodging, or phone.
Despite the lack of amenities, the view from the campground is as stunning as ever. Guests can drive up to Toroweap Overlook and admire the cliff edge that looks 3,000 feet down the Colorado River. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can wander along the 6-mile round-trip loop of the Tuckup Trail.
Crater Lake National Park, OR
Crater Lake National Park is the fifth-oldest national park in the country and the only national park in Oregon. Oregon’s Crater Lake came to be after a violent volcanic eruption around 7,700 years ago. Today, it is a crystal-clear lake filled with up to 1,943-foot-deep water. There are loads of outdoor activities to do in Crater Lake Park, including swimming, hiking, and exploring Wizard Island and the legendary Pacific Crest Trail.

Watchman Campground is one of the most popular campsites at the world-famous Zion National Park. It is located just about a quarter of a mile away from the South entrance. Wonder Lake Campground, Denali National Park, AK
Wonder Lake Campground is the best place to enjoy the wondrous view of Mount Denali, North America’s largest peak. It sits at mile 85 of the 92-mile road through Denali National Park. Know that vehicles are prohibited after mile 15, so you’ll have to reach the campground by tour, shuttle, or camper bus. This shouldn’t be a worry, though, as the campground is situated a few feet away from the drop-off area.
Wonder Lake has a total of twenty-eight campsites, each of which are equipped with tent pads and picnic tables. Other than admiring the beauty of Mount Denali, visitors can fish for trout and grayling in Wonder Lake.
