Archeological site
During the refurbishment of the Palace's Chapel to become part of the new museum, a significant archeological site was discovered in connection with the Roman villa that happened to be located in the city centre of Alcázar de San Juan. This discovery changed the original architecture plan of the refurbishment. A footbridge was constructed to let the site visible, becoming at the same time the main entrance for the Palace's Chapel exhibition.
In connection with the graphic design developed for the museum inside, a graphic geometric pattern was cut in the metal box of the entrance. Meanwhile a new graphic language was developed for the site, making use of color to express chronological transition/periods, photography to show the main pieces recovered and simple illustration to explain the space in its present state to the visitor.
