BACKGROUND
Rome is renowned around the world for its spectacular cultural heritage. One of its most significant monuments is the Mausoleum of Augustus. In its over 2,000 years of existence the Mausoleum has lived several lives, but during the last 80 years it has been abandoned. Until today.
THE BRIEF
Thanks to Fondazione TIM, in partnership with the City of Rome, the Mausoleum of Augustus will soon be restored to its former glory. How can we celebrate the beginning of the restoration project?
THE IDEA
We launched a dedicated website, with an education section and a stunning online experience, where everyone can relive the magnificent story of Augustus and the Mausoleum.
An interactive journey in twelve chapters, made possible with the support of the most innovative 3D and WebGL technologies.
The idea is to illustrate each age of the Mausoleum with a specific Roman symbol, made up of small fragments. At the end of each chapter, each symbol breaks up into thousands of pieces and then reassembles in a new figure, representing the following age.
RESULTS
More than 140 countries involved.
Average visit time: above 3.30 minutes.
Our biggest result: focusing the world’s attention on a majestic monument, forgotten for almost a century.
