THE TRILOGY OF AN OPPOSITION

When the ideas we generate or strongly believe are only based on sequences of pre-conceived thoughts, they are considered as empty ideas since they have no consistency or  background support. Ideas need to have a connection from one to another, leading us to further thoughts and findings. No idea comes by itself and all the process behind it can be seen as a path between the starting point and the final result, where the journey is actual more relevant than the destiny itself.
Focusing on the study previous explained, through the design presented I attempted to show how capable a journey is of generating three different outcomes for the same starting point, enforcing the relevance of the journey itself as an experiential process .

Connotation as a perception
Connotation refers to the emotional meaning of one image, the way we see it and most importantly, the way we feel the image and each element in it. In this way, we can say that connotation is a way of perceiving one image, or it is even a perception itself.

But can a perception be perceived?

Seeing is about turning on our eyes and turning off our brain. It is about responding to our instincts. Seeing is very personal. Everyone sees things differently - what is fascinating to one person might be banal to the next.
So seeing is not about pre conceived ideas and rules, not even about techniques. Instead, seeing is much more about personal approaches, feeling and rethinking of an idea, it is about each one’s perceptions.

In this way, “Seeing” is the final title for my project. After considering a few different names, I decided that this one was the most appropriate to the concept I wanted to transmit. “The trilogy of a perception” was then added to the name since the book is presenting three possible outcomes, in this case oppositions, to the same starting point.

The photobook provided intends to enable the audience to play with different perceptions, allowing a higher level of engagement and exploration within the concept. Starting with the same image displayed in three different columns, each journey dictates a different outcome, which in this case means a different opposite for the starting point.
Each person is able to play with the different layers. The result will be based on the reader's choice throughout the process which results from his thoughts and beliefs.
Regarding the visual language created, I decided to present the first and last section of images, in this case the opposite points of the book, as clear and clean images. To represent the connection between them, the journey itself, I decided to create long-exposure images, since the typology of these photographs transmit the unclearness and subjectivity characteristics of a journey.

"Seeing" design attempted to enforce the diversity of the human being perceptions and the fundamental role of the journey process for their understanding. There are no right or wrong perceptions and the background path is what makes them consistent and credible.
