Pathways Clinical Application

Oxford Cancer Pathways
A clinical application developed by Oneview Healthcare for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The Problem to Solve
Cancer patients don’t progress through a treatment “pathway” in a linear way. Current workflows resulted in clinicians in the pathway not always receiving the most up-to-date patient information from other points in the pathway. Patient outcomes are affected.

The Solution
Working iteratively with clinicians, an agile team lead by futurist Sean Weatherall built the Pathways application. Its UI Only displays the essential information and workflow for each clinician in the treatment pathway, reducing input and reducing error.

The Approach
Technical: Pathways leverages FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) to reduce the complexity associated with interfacing with medical record systems. The pilot programme developed digital workflow for prostate cancer pathways. The pilot was successful and Pathways is now being developed for more cancer pathways.
Visual interface: I kept the interface as clean and simple as possible, using calm colours and white space to reduce visual noise in a busy work environment and to reduce cognitive load.

My Role
UI element design, icon design, logo design, initial prototyping
