Before 1870, the area was called The Pampilla and was a forested intended horseback riding, and the national anniversary celebration of the wealthy classes that alternated with the lower classes in the ramadas and inns that stood in that place. This land was located south of the Glen, between the present streets Santa Rosa and San Ignacio, which extended to the Aguada Zanjón the north. The Champ de Mars was a patch of dirt surrounding and included in the Pampilla.
