ViTech, Intellisurance

Intellisurance, is a software that provides insurance suggestions based on a survey with a few questions. This is a project created for a hackathon called YHacks at Yale University.
The Challenge

Make an interface for customers to give their details and compare the life insurance plans.

My Role

As a designer, it was my duty to figure out a interface that works best for my customers to provide their information and get the results they want to see. So the first thing that came to mind was a survey. I wanted something that people are already familiar with and something that can be easily translated across multiple platforms.
The Process

So with the 24 hours I had to create the UI, I accomplished this. I wanted an interface that was clean, cut, and simple. Something that is easy for anyone from the ages of 20 to 60 to be able to use Intellisurance.

Intellisurance is usable between all platforms as one of the factors I took into consideration for this was convenience. This layout work efficiently for the user as once they are familiar with one platform all the other platforms are the same. I initially started out working on a more web based UI but then changed to a more mobile friendly interface. I wanted to try something new and I read up about mobile design first then possibly implementing it into desktop after.

The original designs were more about displaying data for the user and having the recommended plan stand out in somewhat, way, shape, or form; then having the user dashboard on the side as the user updates the information the data learns more about the user, changing accordingly.

The button design came down to something that I had to brainstorm and test, two things I had to keep in mind while experimenting with different buttons is that they had to be engaging, and easy to use.
Rough sketches of the UI along with some assets
Inspiration for the colour scheme came from the photograph as users found the red sunset to feel very welcoming and warm in contrast to the silhouettes of the people and the trees. The photograph gives a more personal touch making the interface intimate experience for the user.

Also by asking questions to the user in a more personal, friendly manner, allows our users to be able to connect with our technology so our user can provide accurate information.

The Takeway

My role as the UI/UX designer I realized it was mostly a race against time, I was able to deliver a high quality product in a short amount of time given. What took the most amount of time was figuring out and brainstorming ideas on how to display the UI and have it fully function as well. I learned how to communicate closely and collaborate with front and backend developers during our brainstorming sessions I would be able to contribute a user experience point of view.
