"Al-KitKat" (1991)- Film poster

Al-Kit Kat is a 1991 Egyptian film that revolves around Sheikh Hosni, a blind man living in the Al-Kit Kat neighborhood in Giza with his mother and son. He spends his days dreaming of riding a motorcycle and smoking hashish as a means of coping with his life as a blind man and the loss of his wife.
"AL-KITKAT"  probably has one of my favorite posters, the beautiful illustration reflects perfectly the dreamy and absurd nature of the story, mixed with iconic elements from the film. The idea here was to create a contemporary looking poster in regards to style, that offers a more realistic photo dependent look.

And this is where the real problem begins. The lack of on set photographs or high quality stills of the film forces you to be creative in compositing and researching the photographs that will work. Having only a handful of resources available to work from, and with a very particular idea in mind to what the poster should be about, I started compositing.
This particular scene served as the centerpiece to the poster for me, a key character moment between the father and son. A very serious dramatic confrontation in a film identified as a 'Comedy' on it's Wikipedia page, but definitley has darker undertones overall than light.

The goal was to create a poster that captures the essence of the drama in this scene, and to highlight the every changing dynamic between these two characters that is central to the entire film.
Typography
It was crucial to me to maintain the Iconic typography of the film, used in the opening and ending credit titles. So film stills were used as the main type face on the poster.
Final Result
Thank you !
