Economist Debates

I was the UX Lead in a re-design of The Economist Debates site. The debates follow an Oxford style debate model where audience participation determines the results of the debate. The audience is suppose to address comments and questions to the speakers and the moderator, and not to each other. 

Because the one sided nature of this conversation, a unique commenting and scrolling interaction was designed. When a user writes a comment, the other user's comments are hidden. The comments also scroll independently from the content, so the user can read commentary and the associated content at the same time.

Below is video of a prototype I developed to test these ideas and communicate the interaction to the development team.
