ART DIRECTION: THE HAIR HAD TO GO

Notes on Regrowth is a photographic series focussed on Alice Slabolepszy's approach to her craft of hairstyling.

“The hair had to go” was released via Alice's Instagram.  The  narrative is driven
by a moody interpretation of the hair industry's "Before" and "After" approach,
that focuses on the client and stylist's POV.
As Alice began to cut Nikki's notoriously long ponytail, Nikki recalled her “first big chop”, as a child.  She recalls watching her hair collect in a soft pile on a shop floor, prior to starting her new life in Athens, at age eight.

Nikki notes that her hair became a reflection of her identity and femininity.  The pressure to fulfil an imagery of the feminine ideal was no longer as meaningful to her.  Her goals shifted to embracing risk and transforming into "a more practical being".  With this, she shares that "maintaining wonder" is something that should never be lost, in times of growth.
