"AIRSHIP RACE" SMARTPHONE GAME
A series of gameplay stills illustrated for a hypothetical smartphone app.
The project requirements called for two setting options (Shanghai and Delhi), three characters, mass-throwing monkeys, and a mothership. It also required a heightened level of consideration for the little details (literally) that is so imperative for the production of a successfully-crafted app.
I took the liberty of developing a simple, graphic, vertically-oriented game aimed at a young demographic (i.e. audience age beginning at that of elementary school).

In looking at how games like Dumb Ways to Die, Doodle Jump, and Angry Birds manipulate scale, dimension, color, and character proportion, I was able to choose relative directions based on how effective I saw them acting in relation to my prompt.

Brightly colored figures against a most subtle, receding background and easy-to-follow gameplay were basic yet foundational choices I made based on these precedents. The character-to-setting hierarchy was meant to lessen the incoherent nature of the game prompt, and the color choices and gameplay was to taper to the general interests of the young target audience.
