Since 2015, Juan Carlos Benitez has led the Latte Training Academy as Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the Saipan-based organization provides vocational training and helps workers develop skills in high-demand fields, such as information technology, bookkeeping, healthcare, and hospitality. Outside of his work, Juan Carlos Benitez is a longtime member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
In October 2017, the AILA rolled out the brand-new version of its essential guidebook: Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity: A Guide to Representing Foreign-Born Defendants. This is the seventh edition of the resource that serves as a seminal guide for immigration lawyers across the country who find themselves defending immigrant clients in a myriad of complex legal situations.
The guidebook contains a thorough treatment of many issues that come up in federal court cases. According to AILA Executive Director Benjamin Johnson, the book is also a valuable resource in situations where a client may have had prior representation by a lawyer who didn’t understand the long-term ramifications of a case.
