Experimental Photograms | Darkroom Collages

pho•to•gram
noun
a picture produced with photographic materials, such as light-sensitive paper, but without a camera

As an introduction to darkroom photography, we were tasked to create photograms and experiment with different compositions using various found objects on light-sensitive paper. For my first series, I used pieces of the UNC Charlotte campus newspaper and layered them on top to create different shapes with space and overlaid typography and images.
After getting used to the darkroom and how composing the images worked, I used my second series to document the presidential election. As with the first panels I created, I flipped the pieces to reflect both the positives and the negatives of the coverage and commentary that resulted from both the candidates and growing public opinion.
