HOW CAN WE REDUCE FOOD WASTE?
CORE IDEA
Fytó helps to educate children playfully to value food and waste less. The growing incubator includes an upper section where children can feed their seedlings with food scraps. These are processed into nutritious compost by the busy earthworms. The soil production is made visible in order to make the nourishing cycle comprehensible for the child.
RESEARCH INTERVIEWS & CULTURAL PROBE
Through first general research interviews several insights focused on the opportunity area of child education.
Therefore, my next step was to engage with the target group of children and parents through a cultural probe.
It was designed as a package of drawing and writing tasks to awake discussions about food and waste topics.
The circular system behind Fytó helps to change the perception of food and food waste. Instead of being garbage, the waste becomes an important role in feeding the earthworms. Making the soil production visible for children is another key aspect.
Caring for the plant and checking its health is done with the help of a little sensor, that connects to a digital game.
This combines short and long term rewards for the child to keep engaged and learn even more.
