Mjölnir (Thor's hammer) - Installation
Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) is a fictional sentient weapon appearing in American comic books and Marvel movies. The challenge was to transform a fictional weapon measuring merely 45 centimeters to a 9 feet tall huge permanent installation.
For the first test model I used foam blocks and bamboo to make accurate 1:1 model of hammer. For final installation I used 5 mm and 3 mm PVC boards to make the different parts of the body, waste cardboard boxes were used to give shape to the structure and PVC pipe for handle. Material constraints were overcome by using different techniques and qualities of material.
Later on, I worked out how to make the hammer stand in the middle of a ground without connecting them to anything... Compositions started to grow more complex and bigger when eventually I was working with 9 feet big custom made hammer... Results can be found below.
