"GROOVE" - music production platform. Silicone keyboard/mixpad folds around the device to efficiently serve as a protective case. The interface design featured here incorporates an entirely new (visual) system of reading, writing, learning, and playing music. Senior year Industrial Design project 2017.
Most music production platforms exist as software applications. Once downloaded, they rely on the typical mouse/keyboard/computer/monitor interface of the computer. This forces any serious or aspiring musician to seek out and purchase expensive midi-instruments and accessories that can interact with their music software when plugged-in to their computer. So, to combat the logistical nightmare this creates, my design features:
• a fully customizable, 64-key chromatic keyboard
• one damn-good microphone
• two editing screens
• three navigational control-dials, and
• a variable-brightness, RGB micro-LED piano-roll display.
"Groove" all of a sudden provides a one-stop-shop for both aspiring and professional musicians! Furthermore-by analyzing the current climate of this market, we discover it is spread way-too-thin for an artist to realistically support themselves through their art.
All things considered, I believe this product has the potential to impact the world of music, and establish itself as the industry standard - for a market that desperately needs one.
Microphone is affixed to backplate/kickstand - opening this kickstand turns the device "on" as it can only be opened after the silicone keyboard has been completely unfolded, indicating the musician is ready to "Groove."
