Rullion Recruitment.
Radford were asked to update the Rullion Recruitment website for a recent pitch, I soon realised that it needed much more than a quick aesthetic revamp. It needed a complete rethink as to it's design and functionality. I had to start from scratch and work out the best way for the website to deliver its objectives, i.e. the quickest and simplest way to search for a job or employee.

My first impressions of the old design was the complete lack of direction for anyone landing on the site. The 'Job Search' link on the right hand side takes you to a page explaining that searching the site is easy, and then the third paragraph tells you about boolean strings. A new user would be expecting to arrive at a page where they could actually search for a job.
Over time, the different sectors within Rullion have amended their own sections of the website which has led to a fragmenting of the branding, style and even the layout for different pages.

The layout I designed presented the core functions clearly and visibly, with the the key message stating who Rullion are and what they do in the middle of the home page, with easy access to the 4 most popular sections underneath, and 2 large call to actions for job seekers or recruiters.

The quick job search box was also given a prime spot in the top right hand corner and an rss feed for the latest vacancies sat underneath in the same column. The colour coded section navigation on the left hand side would have provided drop downs with further subsections and figures for how many vacancies there were for that section.
The sections for each sub category would have its own specific colour and this would be carried through to all offline branding. Sub category pages would also have a more specific search box.

An unobtrusive login was added at the top of every page, and to finish a large footer with links to Employee tools, employer advice, categories of jobs (tied to the feed with up to date numbers and finally the locations of positions. Social media links were added as well.

Clicking through to a section page would bring up a brief summary of that section and also introduce the recruitment expert for that particular area of the company and a more advanced search area. The side columns on these pages would also be used to draw attention to other sections of the Rullion business such as Managed Solutions and Elite recruitment for senior executives.

I also designed some offline materials to show how the updated branding could work for traditional media.
