ARCHIVARIUM
a zine of historical photography
The Soviet conception of society was based on the belief that the personal time of the citizens had to serve their empowerment as workers and enablers of communism’s goals. Leisure and idleness were associated with irresponsible wastefulness and strictly discouraged. In this context, the pleasures of doing nothing often became a form of resistance to the demands of the totalitarian regime. Archivarium’s first edition presents a selection of family photographs from the Armenian resort town Dilijan, which document these small but joyous moments of freedom and self-expression between the 1950s and 80s.
