After the English football league re-branded in 2015 I was approached by someone working with the EFL to come up with a solution to apply the new brand look and feel to the interiors of their corporate offices.
I came up with a solution that dug down to the core of what has defined English football, pre and post the Premier League era, focusing on the moments that shaped the landscape of football past and present and the players, legends and cult heroes.
I used the circles from the new brand as a guide to create a series of wall mounted motifs that tell the stories of these moments and players to be positioned around the walls of the offices.
Moments like the title decider in 89, Liverpool v Arsenal,.Needing to win by 2 goals against the powerhouse of Liverpool. Michael Thomas’ last minute goal away at Anfield secured the title for Arsenal against the odds. This scene is immortalised in Nick Hornby’s book and film Fever Pitch.
Legends like George Best and Tom Finney, both widely regarded as talents that transcended generations.
Cult heroes like Georgi Kinkladze and Robin Friday, who may not be know much outside of their respective clubs, but hold hero status to the fans.
The superstars made in the football league, players who have recently come to prominence in Dele Alli and Jamie Vardy.
As well as the moments and players as shown above, the circle motifs could also be used to visualise facts and stats on the walls as well as being utilised for way finding and window manifestations.
