Fang Mountain is a feature rich hike near the city of Prince George in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. The short but steep hike climbs through several landscapes, including pristine cedar forest, boulder chutes, caves, limestone stairways, shale slides, alpine meadows and lakes.
I've lived an outdoorsy life and I've seen landscapes throughout Canada and abroad; However, Fang Mountain gave me a sublime sense of belonging that I haven't experienced anywhere else. It isn't a large mountain, and the landscape isn't "epic." But I think it is a perfectly complete alpine zone that feels like home.
I traveled to Fang Mountian on a leisure trip with my adventure partner, Erin, in 2014. After seeing my photos and Vimeo clip, the team at work decided that I should go back with our video crew to get footage for a refreshed outdoor adventure reel.
At approximately 5km the hike isn't particularly daunting, but it does ascend aggressively and the terrain demands your constant attention. With a backpack full of camera gear this is a grueling but beautiful hike.
On a different assignment we got take a flight tour over Kakwa Provincial Park. The pilot was kind enough to take us over Fang Mountain on the return trip so we could get a little bit more footage of my favourite place.
