Edward Reicin's profile

Metropolitan Opera National Council

MPC Containment International president and co-owner Edward Reicin has more than four decades of container manufacturing experience. Edward Reicin performs in professional opera productions in his spare time and maintains membership with the Metropolitan Opera National Council.

The Metropolitan Opera National Council identifies promising young opera singers across the US and Canada with the intention of fostering the development of their career. August Belmont founded the program in 1952 in order to increase national interest and support for the Metropolitan Opera. Membership with the National Council provides a number of benefits, such as priority ticketing to Met performances and a subscription to Opera News magazine. Additionally, members receive invitations to the annual National Council Spring Weekend in New York, which brings together members from across the country for a performance featuring opera stars.

Auditions for the National Council take place annually in 42 districts across 12 regions in the US and Canada. A team of local volunteers manage the auditions, in which opera singers compete for a cash prize, the opportunity to sing on the Met stage, and the chance to advance their careers. Winners of the region finals go on to compete in the National Semi-Finals in New York, where approximately 10 competitors will advance to the nationals and compete in a public concert alongside the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
