Title: Sloth

This work is about multiple different animals combined to look like one cohesive animal. Some of the different animals that I used were fictional and some were real. The entirety of the body is a sloth. The horns and ears of the animal are represented as the North American folk tale, the Jackalope. The tail tuft represents the Finnish folk tale, the Troll.

I feel that these creatures represent my emotions in both subtle and strong ways. I feel that even though the time I’ve spend at NMU seems to flash by, I am deeply connected to this geographical location, the upper peninsula, which is why I thought the deer horns would be appropriate. Trolls are generally seen as both represented as angry and playful creatures: I am still angry at God and other people, even when I don’t want to be. The sloth is part of my personality which is both good and bad: I need to learn not to be lazy, but take time to relax when I am not feeling emotionally well. The nature of the rabbit and deer establishes that I still feel anxious, which can hold me back while trying to accomplish my goals.
