The Wick Poetry Center works with writers of all ages in creative writing. The poetry produced called traveling stanzas, is paired with designers to create art that replicates the emotions and words of the poet. This Italian poem compares immigration to the movement of the sea and a shell resting between waves.
The Sea (Translation of Italian poem)
The wave that starts from the sea,
embraces the shore
as it arrives
a shell still alive.
The sea lies
And you see in the distance a ship
Then there was a serious sound
That he reaped voracious.
They were songs of immigrants
That come from improvised inflatable boats.
—Giulia Torrini, Age 11
