For our final project, it was broken up into three parts; abstraction, texture, and type. Once we completed those three components, we developed them further by bringing them into digital mockups. The overarching objective was to introduce us to the many different aspects of branding, and how to create a theme while still keeping continuity overall.
We had to choose a natural object, plant or animal, then research/observe that object in order to create an abstraction of it by using a contour line.
I went with the octopus for my object because I find the octopus to be one of my favorite creatures. First I started out by making quick, rough sketches. Then, I brought them to life in In Design and made them into contour drawings. In the final design I fragmented the octopus into different shapes.
We collected textures from the internet, magazines, or books.
I found these textures by google searching. The one on the left seemed kind of odd and the way it flowed made me think of octopus tentacles. The middle one is an example of were they might live. The last one reminded me of the suction cups on the octopus tentacles.
For the final portion, we brought our final concepts into photoshop mockups. We began integrating color into the contour line drawing, texture, and type.
