With my Nightmares alive

- and captured in the turtledove felt.

And there they lie, still.

This project consist in the illustration of three short stories, which I wrote along the lines of Allan Poe’s stories.
They are concerned with the subject of the gaze linked to an altered psychologic and physical dimension.

The short stories are organized in three books, one for each story, size 29x40 cm (book cover) and 28x39 cm (pages) bound by hand.

The text is printed by silkscreen technique, on laid paper, lastly the illustrations are realized on turtledove-coloured felt pages.

The images were made through three steps.

Step one: the print, on felt, of water-based varnish monotypes.
Step two: the implementation of the figures, on felt, with black spray paint and bezels on which negative pictures have been cutout.

Step three: The last step consists in a further handling of the resulting images.

In the text of the books there is not interruption.
The text is tabled in the first pages, followed by pictures.
The choice has been made to not interrupt the narrative with a great abundance of images, by opting for a consequential gallery of illustrations.

Il lavoro consiste nell’illustrazione di tre racconti, scritti di mio pugno sulla falsariga dello stile di Allan Poe, che si occupano della tematica dello sguardo legato ad una dimensione psicologica e fisica alterata.

I racconti si dividono in tre libri, uno per testo, di dimensioni 29x40 cm (per quanto riguarda la copertina) e 28x39 cm (per quanto riguarda le pagine) rilegati a mano.

Il testo è stampato, con la tecnica della stampa serigrafica, su fogli di carta vergata, mentre le illustrazioni sono realizzata su pagine di feltro color tortora.

Le immagini sono state realizzate attraverso tre passaggi.

Il primo è stato la stampa, su feltro, di monotipi con smalto a base d’acqua.

Il secondo riguarda la realizzazione delle figure, sempre su feltro, con vernice spray nera e mascherine sulle quali sono state ritagliate, in negativo, le immagini.

Il terzo ed ultimo passaggio consiste in un’ulteriore manipolazione delle immagini risultanti.

Nei libri il testo non è interrotto dalle illustrazioni, bensì presentato nelle prime pagine, con le immagini a seguire: questo per far sì che la grande abbondanza di disegni non troncasse eccessivamente lo scorrere delle parole, optando per una galleria di illustrazioni consequenziali.
