PlaceAVote has been a labour of love for me over the last two years. Having been given the opportunity of a lifetime to fulfil my dreams and design an online voting platform. I set out on the biggest design challenge of my career: Democracy.
Logo
The PlaceAVote logo was designed with a view to a timeless mark that would define the idea of a more direct democracy for years to come. Lets take a look at the steps I took to create our defining image.
I conducted a free-form trial and error logo session where I gathered as many different inspirations as possible from across the political spectrum and beyond to discover where PlaceAVote would fit in this very loud arena
Logo Research
From there I started to develop my ideas further and created an Illustrator file playing with various styles of logo. As you can see our final logo came from this process.
Finally, I presented the logo to the team showing my rationale and methodology
Competitor Analysis:
We carefully analysed other companies directly in our field looking at their strengths and weaknesses. Due to this being a young, fairly niche field of work it was important to offer something distinctive from our contemporaries and try not to replicate each others work too much.
User Journeys:
Next up we created several conceptual user profiles and imagined how they would most likely use our application
Sitemap:
Once we had established what our theoretical users were most likely to do on the site we set about creating a simple sitemap to serve as a template for both us and the developers when it came to developing the app.
Prototyping:
Moving into the design phase we began creating prototypes in Sketch, Zeplin + InVision.

User Testing:
Upon completion of our prototypes we embarked on a vigorous user testing program. Targeting people of specific geography and demographics we received fantastic feedback from our testing (over 90% positive) and from there we were able to hand off the project to the development team.
