Problem

This assignment required me to create a print-ready magazine cover featuring a transparent theme with a stylized title, new mastheads, and an overall easily readable design that flows from top to bottom. The photos could not be pixilated (low res) and not copyrighted. The cover had to have several elements added like layer masks, smart filters, and several pictures.

Solution

I used my photography for this project. The photos were all edited to fit the requirements. My inspiration came from the I-D and Dazed magazines. They have such a unique style to their covers, and that is what I wanted to do. Also, I saw Dazed and used both as inspiration. I-D has a set theme, where the logo is in the upper left corner, and the model has the right eye covered in some way. This places them aside from the rest of the photography/high fashion covers. Dazed has their bold logo and plays around with the color scheme. Their pictures are also strange and exotic, they both have the similar audience and uses their styles to capture attention. Photography is the most common approach to magazine cover design. There are usually fewer people on the cover, looking at the camera. Fashion and editorial magazine always depends on a good photograph for their cover. The main thing to point out here is that the nature of the photography has to correspond with the style of the publication.

Result

My Magazine came out great! I was impressed with the final product since I have created a weaker magazine cover in the past. My style came across to the viewers of what I was about. I wanted to create a more artistic magazine. My work is similar but better because I have a more modern feel to my cover. My cover is more than a cover, its art, which will stand out with my competition.
