Busy Bees - Cereal Box Design

Problem:

This assignment challenged me to create a digital cereal box design in Adobe Illustrator.  The cereal box had to be appealing to a particular audience of choice. The box had to stand out with a great overall design. I had to keep in mind that colors, shapes, and words are essential elements to a creating a good design. A character was also required for the design, a figure what would correspond with the theme of choice. She had to be able to help increase sales of my company like the Cheerios Bee character.

Solution:

I decided to cater to young girls ages 5-10. When discovering different box designs, the majority of the boxes were catered to boys or had a more male-driven design. My theme is centered around Queen Bee. I choose to use her because of how important she is to the colony; I want my audience to feel the same. She looks unique, friendly and stylish. The African American community will notice that she also is similar to black females by her bun, curls, and curves. Cereal box characters are so famous that Lab Researchers Aner Tal and Brian Wansink came up with the solution to marketing to children. The results show that characters on cereals marketed to children make incidental eye contact with children and cereals sold to adults make accidental eye contact with adult shoppers.

Result:

My completed design composes; eye-catching colors, purple and yellow, which are complementary colors and a fun character. My box design was successful in getting the theme across to the audience. My reviews from others helped reform some of the flaws.
