Apart Digital Grade

*Update Note* The final film has been released and I have not been credited as one of the Digital Colorist or anything related. So, I cannot take credit for any of the final look of the film. The stills below are only examples of the work I did do and in no way represent the final appearance of the film.

This was my first feature film color grade and quite a learning experience in both the actual technical side of the grade and in dealing with the overall production timeline. Unfortunately, due to the production's needs conflicting with what they could afford, XL Films (my employer at the time) ultimately turned over all the color files to the production to be finished elsewhere.

Early on the production released the film's trailer with my color grade still intact with, what looks like, finished effects shot that I never had. Unfortunately, as they came close to releasing for major festivals, it appears that they have regraded the entire film in a new direction (based on notes from their website).

So, bummer my grade did not survive and additional bummer that the overall experience was marred with production headaches outside of my control. In the end, though, I'm still happy with the the results from my grade and continue to get positive comments on the work.

You can see the trailer via the production's Facebook site. While I can't show completed shots, below are stills from the final hires renders.

The film has three distinct time periods that we used different color treatments to help separate.
