This year I created a tool, The Infographic Wheel, to help people who are interested in making a quick infographic for data. It doesn't matter if the data is qualitative or quantitative. This tool suggests infographic layouts based on the specific characteristics of the data that is being used. This tool is free here.

Research and Analysis
I started out with 113 potential layouts to show. My resources the many many infographic books that I have and things I found from web searches. I narrowed it down to 36 essential and familiar layouts. I then started breaking the layouts into categories and sub-categories.
