A student project in the 3rd year of Vellios School of Art, for Illustration course.
Purpose: Illustrate a cover for ProHow magazine which is main article title is "Petroleum in the Aegean; Opportunities and Nightmares".
Execution: I created two different variations of an almost same concept; Illustrating what good can petroleum extraction in Aegean sea offer in daily life but with what destruction in the ecosystem in return.
Reality versus the real impact on the ecosystem.
The Illustration shows a poor girl getting warmed up in front of the radiator. The radiator is designed as an aquarium. In order to work, the radiator needs oil. The view of the sea bottom in front of radiator/aquarium reminds us that the sea and its creatures are sacrificed for people's needs. Besides bad weather, the window also shows the future of our ecosystem, which is suffering from this laborious process and which clearly in the future will affect humanity as well. Under the window, there is a toy which looks like the Rich Uncle Pennybags character from Monopoli, who is fishing through the radiator/aquarium, which shows that the greediness of those who control oil production take advantage of the rest humanity and environment. The article's title is also written on a caution tape like screaming.
Squid ink has a similar appearance to oil, and the squid itself is similar to the hose, which fills the car's tank which is a must-see object of the human being. This shows the sacrifice of the environment to people and their simple needs. The hose is held by a "rich" hand that shows the greediness of those who control oil production and take advantage of the rest humanity and environment. Finally, the background appears to be at the bottom of the sea.
