The site for the houses is located along the turn of a small creek in suburban Shanghai. It is a rebuilt project after the demolishing of original collapsing houses.
As the original houses have two parts, the east wing for the family of elder brother and the west wing for the family of younger one, according to the local laws, main structures of new buildings should not go beyond the bounds of original ground floor area. Which provided very restricted borders for the solutions. (12m x 12m square shaped for the East Wing and 8m x 12m rectangle shaped for the West Wing)
Within the operable area, the spaces and rooms were arranged to meet clients' requirements on functions. In addition, while in cooperating with greenery on site, all spaces were designed quite dynamicly as response to the tree outlines. The benefits of delicately designed layouts are also reflected by the small yards spread over the place. Basically, the idea is to bring the views and beauties of nature into functional spaces.
