When We Were Not Here

This project occured to me all of a sudden while I was wandering around in my new neighborhood; Kayaköy.

I decided to quit my job and my life in İstanbul and moved to Fethiye / Kayaköy.  I was riding my bike in Kayaköy and trying to discover the neighborhood.

When I looked at the landscape I felt an urgent desire to listen to Replikas and their latest album “Biz Burada Yok İken” (While We Were Not Around) because the area was really “countryside” and the landscapes were reminding me the songs in this album.

Replikas was one of my favourite Turkish music bands and this record was something else.

It was a collection of reinterpretations of vintage Turkish psychedelic rock songs that were originally produced in the late sixties and seventies when musicians were combining traditional melodies and instruments with the electric vitality of peak-period Western rock’n roll. It was called “Anadolu Pop/Rock”

Then I decided to put my headphones on and begin to play this album while I was wandering around in Kayaköy with my camera around my neck by walking or by riding my bike.

I had chosen a single frame for each single song.

1) Aya Bak Yıldıza Bak (Look at the moon, look at the star)
2) Kaleden Kaleye Şahin Uçurdum ( I flied a hawk from one castle to the other)
3) Köprüden Geçti Gelin ( A bride crossed the bridge)
4) Hudey Hudey ( Oh God, Oh God)
5) Kaşık Havası ( A folk dance music which is named as "Spoon")
6) Bir Ayrılık, Bir Yoksulluk, Bir Ölüm ( Seperation, poverty and death )
7) Ölüm Allahın Emri (Death is a commandment)
8) Çiçek Dağı (Mount "Flower")
9) Suya Giden Allı Gelin ( Red colouring bride goes to fountain)
10) Panayır Günü ( High Day)
11) Sür Efem Atını ( Ride your horse, my efe)
