A photographer captured an Ohio State Women's Lacrosse player “in the moment” during a match against Penn State on a cold, light snowy day in April of 2016.

The photo is slightly retouched to enhance the athlete's freckles and details of the eyes, as well as remove the snowflakes from her hair and face. Additionally, the color of the image was adjusted and a light bokeh effect with a sun flare was applied to compensate and tweak the otherwise cold and desolate weather captured in the original photograph.

The “Play Like A Girl” phrase was chosen to complement the strong, intimidating photo of the female athlete and give a facetious take to what has been traditionally used as a sexist put-down. Combined with the image, the irony of the message is unmistakable.
