Flat, Country, Repair
For this project, we had to draw a noun, verb, and an adjective for the illustration using what we have learned in class over the semester. The words I drew were flat, repair, and country.
I came up with the idea of someone covering up flat earth propaganda posters with round earth posters. Another idea was to do an outdoor setting with a flat tire on a car and a cowboy. While working on the first idea I wanted to change my design. I decided to go with a political cartoon. Something I haven't done before.
I drew a sketch out of the drawing of the guy and map of the United States. I kept everything in separate layers to move things around and adjustments. I used a gradient mesh tool on certain areas like his shoes and tie. Made a pattern for the background. Split the water rectangle on the map into a grid. Made a hammer using the pathfinder tools.
I learned how helpful it is to have everything in separate layers. I could tweak one part of the illustration without moving everything else or adjust the color till I found what I was looking for. It was also fun to figure out how to incorporate what I have learned through this class.
