Homa Brut was my school project for Illustrator As Designer class at SMFA (2015). Homa Brut is an online store selling art dolls in Ukrainian style. The work on the brand included development of the logo, color scheme, printed and digital collateral, website mockup.
Brand Legend: “Homa Brut” is an online store that sells handmade gifts created in a special Eastern European style. That national style is reflected in technique, facial features of the dolls and color palette of their clothes. The brand name “Homa Brut”was inspired by Nikolai Gogol’s (Ukrainian writer of 19th century) horror short story “Viy”. Homa Brut, the protagonist of this story was a young man who encountered the demonic forces, and was in a romantic affair with a beautiful girl (“Pannochka”), possessed by evil spirit.
Logo: graphics is based on traditional image of “cossack”, a young Ukrainian man with long mustaches and a peculiar haircut. Other graphic elements of brand identity are: sunflowers, woman in folk costume (“Pannochka”).
Hero image: "Pannochka" (see above)
Typeface Choice: Atheaeum—used as part of the logo and for some taglines (in print materials). Vollkorn and Barlow Condensed fonts are used for all other communications.
All designs were created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, except for the website mockup/prototype that was made in Illustrator and Adobe XD.
