There are many people that are important in my life. All these people have had an influence on me in one way or another and these influences have shaped me as a person. When asked to choose an important person, I would not be able to choose just one.
I have been raised in a small town in the Netherlands, called Blitterswijck. In this town I have a group of friends who will be with me for the rest of my life. I also love to travel, to meet new people and to learn new things. This takes me away from my hometown and also from my friends.
Every summer you can find me at a surfing camp. I think it is really interesting to meet new and inspiring people and to discover new cultures. During my travels I’ve got to know a lot of inspiring people and I’ve made a lot of international friends. I’m always open to new contacts, but when I’m travelling I do miss my friends and family at home.
When I am with my friends I feel warm and accepted. I know that they will always be there for me. That is why I chose to research the appearance of my friends. Combining the different appearances into one was really challenging. I have combined the results of my research in a mask that describes my entire group of friends.
I chose to work with natural materials, that I found on the beach. This choice was based on the memory of my many international friends. The materials from the sea could originate from all over the world and could have travelled far and wide. To me this corresponds with a lot of life experience in humans. It does not matter to me where you are from, because every person is beautiful and unique in its own manner.
