The Acanthus makeup line is actually an extension of the Lapidary multipage book project. This concept uses the same water color elements as the Lapidary book but implemented in a different style. Against the dark background the painting appears cosmic which works with the elegant type to create an aesthetic that is almost magical. The set branded and created by me includes two eye shadow pallets, an eyeliner box, a compact foundation box, liquid foundation label and its box, a duo box set of highlighter and bronzer, and a set of three individual shimmer containers. The inside color of the boxes is a bright blue that creates a dramatic contrast between the inside and outside of the box as well as mimicking the blue of the Lapidary project. The dark cosmic and watercolor style is highly trendy, and the type treatment has a connotation of being fashion-forward and sophisticated with the thin serif font that is tracked out very far.

The name of the brand “acanthus” is actually the type of plant that inspired the ancient Romans to do those swirling floral sculptures seen on their architecture. The logo is a very simplified drawing of a roman acanthus leaf. The name was chosen because the original concept was supposed to be roman bathhouse inspired, but it was too gaudy so I scrapped that idea. Now it’s just a cool sounding name.
