'We march to death' is a book written by Ludwig Deleersnyder & Erik Kortleven. ItĀ talks about 40 soldiers born in Maasmechelen (a Belgian town) who died during World War 1. Over a period of two years Ludwig and ErikĀ collected all theĀ documents they could find about these 40 guys and describedĀ their life stories from birth to theirĀ tragic endings.Ā

I got the chance to work together with Ludwig & ErikĀ on this project. My first completeĀ book design, awesome! For me, it was aĀ huge challenge to combine these beautiful, yet saddening stories with all kinds of documents like photos, letters, newspaper articles,.. Because of these documents the design is an ode to paper research. The book is a 'researching' experience for the reader; apart from reading the stories you can find yourself flipping through the precious pictures and pure love letters.
