The Right Kind of Wrong

the right kind of wrong

For this project one had to design an infographic diptych with the aim to change a specific perception of the audience who views it. I decided to change and challenge the perception that one has the right perception. This meant that I  had to look at the relations between the different elements that shape your beliefs as your beliefs shape your perception of reality.

One’s beliefs are shaped by your identity, environment, preconceived ideas (cognitive biases), as well as the blind spots you have towards what is going on around you. Therefore ultimately all people think that what their doing is right as it is right according to their beliefs.

We often get stuck inside this feeling of rightness owing to the internal sense that we so often experience. This is not a reliable guide to what is actually going on in the world, as we choose among beliefs. Our beliefs are not only formed by our identity and environment but also by the evidence we choose to see. We end up confusing our models of the world with the world itself. According to Kathryn Schultz, every act of interpretation is an act of misinterpretation.

I decided to show how one’s belief system has an extreme influence on a person’s morality by also focusing on what makes people psychopaths and whether the death penalty in some countries has any influence on the number of murders committed.
