Kauffman Family Crest

Introduction:
This project is the family crest project. I was called upon to design a family crest not only unique to myself, but to my family as well. Hope you enjoy!

Sketches:
These are my sketches. Before sketching out an idea of my crest, I compiled a list of things that I could use in my family crest. With these sketches I created different shield shapes as well as different combinations of things that went into each section of the crest. Some verbal things inkept consistent were the shape of the shield and four sections.
These two photos above are my inspiration. The first photo I saw of a dreidel. In my final copies, aince I am Jewish, I wanted to make my crest into a dreidelish shape. And for the second image I liked the arch of the family name as well as the mix of images and letters in each compartment of the crest.
Artboard and Black @ White:
The first photo above is of my artboard on illustrator. The artboard shows my final copy and a second rough copy version of my family crest. The second image here is the Black and White version. Although I really like the Black and white version, I wanted to emphasize my Jewish heritage which is why my final copy is blue and white.
Final Copy:
This is my final crest. The name Kauffman is arched. The EST 1970 stands for when my family moved to Arizona. The K stands for my last name, Kauffman. The Arizona star with the Roman Numeral two stands for me being a second generation Arizonan. Finally, the Jewish Star, dreidel shape, and blue and white color all stand for my family's Jewish heritage.
