Autism can be described as a mental condition characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. This mental condition can start from a young age. The diagnosis for an autism spectrum disorder falls under a broad category of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Based on this information, it was decided to focus on the Level Two Kanner autistic group, because they experience marked deficits in verbal and nonverbal social communication skills and they rarely initiate social interactions and experience reduced or abnormal responses to social advances of others.

Keeping this in mind, it was decided to focus on storytelling as an overall theme with the main focus on breaking the unwanted barrier between Autistic children (thinking visually) and a text based book. Since Level Two autism is specifically focused on the requirement of substantial support, it was decided to focus on an age group that is starting to develop and realizing that their development differs from other kids. This can cause frustration and can confuse the child by not understanding what is wrong with them. This problem was solved by illustrating a picture book, with minimal text, specifically for Autistic children between the ages of 11 and 14.

Since animals are often used for therapy sessions. It was decided to use fables, of which the characters are animals and the story leads to a moral lesson, thus the story could also be seen as an inspirational story, for autistic children, so that they can relate to certain aspects of their own lives and to encourage them that being Autistic isn’t a weakness, but rather a uniqueness on its own.
